چکیده
This bending magnet beamline has been in operation since February 1995 for the characterization of optical elements (mirrors, gratings, multilayers, detectors, etc.) in the energy range 50-1000 eV. Although it was designed primarily for precision reflectometry of multilayer reflecting optics for EUV projection lithography, it has capabilities for a wide range of measurements. The optics consist of a monochromator, a reflectometer, and refocusing mirrors to provide a small spot on the sample. The monochromator is a very compact, entrance-slitless, varied-line-spacing plane-grating design in which the mechanically ruled grating operates in the converging light from a spherical mirror working at high demagnification. Aberrations of the mirror are corrected by the line spacing variation, so that the spectral resolving power λ/∆λ is limited by the ALS source size to about 7000. Wavelength is scanned by simple rotation of the grating with a fixed exit slit. The reflectometer has the capability of positioning the sample to within 10 μm and setting its angular position to 0.002°. LABVIEWTM based software provides a convenient interface to the user. The reflectometer is separated from the beamline by a differential pump and can be pumped down in 1/2 hour. Auxiliary experimental stations can be mounted behind the reflectometer. Results are shown that demonstrate the performance and operational convenience of the beamline. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Measurements of the refractive index of yttrium in the 50-1300-eV energy region.
The first experimental results to our knowledge on the refractive index n = 1 - delta + ibeta of yttrium in the extreme-ultraviolet and soft x-ray energy ranges are discussed. To determine the absorptive part beta, transmittance measurements were performed on pure yttrium films in the 50-1300-eV energy region at beamline 6.3.2 of the Advanced Light Source. The dispersive part delta was then cal...
متن کاملExtreme-ultraviolet polarimeter utilizing laser-generated high-order harmonics.
We describe an extreme-ultraviolet (EUV) polarimeter that employs laser-generated high-order harmonics as the light source. The polarimeter is designed to characterize materials and thin films for use with EUV light. Laser high harmonics are highly directional with easily rotatable linear polarization, not typically available with other EUV sources. The harmonics have good wavelength coverage, ...
متن کاملNoise reduction for the infrared beamline at the Advanced Light Source
Significant reductions in the noise of the infrared light have been made at Beamline 1.4.3 infrared source at the Advanced Light Source (ALS). The primary source of vibrational noise has been identified as the water system for the storage ring RF system, which is located near the beamline. Modifications to this system have reduced the noise by an order of magnitude. The dominant source of highe...
متن کاملThe First Synchrotron Infrared Beamlines at the Advanced Light Source: Microscpectroscopy and Fast Timing
A set of new infrared (IR) beamlines on the 1.4 bending magnet port at the Advanced Light Source, LBNL, are described. Using a synchrotron as an IR source provides considerable brightness advantages, which manifests itself most beneficially when performing spectroscopy on a microscopic length scale. Beamline (BL) 1.4.3 is a dedicated microspectroscopy beamline, where the much smaller focused sp...
متن کاملMeasurements of the Optical Constants of Scandium in the 50-1300eV Range
Scandium containing multilayers have been produced with very high reflectivity in the soft x-ray spectrum. Accurate optical constants are required in order to model the multilayer reflectivity. Since there are relatively few measurements of the optical constants of Scandium in the soft x-ray region we have performed measurements over the energy range of 50-1,300 eV. Thin films of Scandium were ...
